Spirits of ATLA

I am not the biggest Avatar fan, I know that.

But goddamn, I cry everytime Aang shows up in the last episode of Korra.

I want to know what Avatar Kyoshi’s companion animal was.

Just a random thought.

AT 9 p.m. on Nick!

Dear Korra fandom, I just saw a commercial for a Behind the Scenes 2-hour block with Korra and ATLA episodes. Just an FYI

Avatar: The Unpopular Opinions.

It’s me, again! I’m known as the fun sucker and shipper crasher. I don’t care. Time to get my unpopular opinions and ideas into the tumblr world.

First, let’s go with my favorite characters. I consider my favorite characters to be Tenzin (though I’m still getting used to his voice), Lin, and Mako. All of these since the beginning.

Since the first appearances, I have also not liked Meelo, Ikki (only for interrupting the story of Zuko’s mom), Asami, Bolin, and obviously Tarrlok.

Amon, I honestly don’t care about. I just want to know who he is.

A lot of people have been complaining that Bolin and Asami are not 100% by Korra’s side like Mako is. I think they have good reason not to be. Both characters have been hurt by Mako and Korra. If I were Asami (which I have been in that situation) I wouldn’t want to be near Korra every second, either. Yeah, I’d help any person in need, but when they’re fine, I just think “gtfo.”

As someone who is never really into shipping, I think the storyline has been going along pretty well. I’m able to wait, somewhat impatiently, for the episode each week without wondering who’s going to end up with who. I’m more into which character will be losing their bending, next.

And wondering: “When the hell is Korra going to go into the avatar state?!”

I think Tarrlok blood bends the council’s arms to raise them.

I mean, it’s a better excuse than them just being so effing stupid. They can just be really stupid and think the blood-bending is like the spirits telling them “you must agree,” and raising their hands for them.

I know I said I wanted that Air Bending Tattoo…

Remember that post?

Yeah, I want it, but it’s just not a convenient place (between lower shoulder blades)

Don’t get me wrong, I still want the tattoo, just maybe not right now.

Instead, I’ll get a simple little tattoo that will be on my wrist, very thin and easy to conceal.

Just one of the above. I’m liking the lowest the best.

There really is a meaning behind it. I’ve always been interested in archery. Since at least fifth grade. After I shattered my elbow and had surgery, I got more into archery because it was a way to help strengthen my arm again and I’m not half bad at it. It is a great way to get rid of stress and to be active without actually having to run around, wear a specific uniform, any of that.

Everything else in my life comes and goes. Interests change. But archery has always been there for me.

I might tweak the pattern, but it’s definitely what I’m leaning towards.

The Final Results Are In!

As you may or may not know, I’ve been working counting the amount of times Zuko’s honor is mentioned, as well as the amount of times that Sokka is captured in Avatar: the Last Airbender. It took a while, but I have finally completed this task!

I must mention for those of you who are unaware, I have ADD, so I did get distracted a few times, but if I felt that I honestly missed too much of the episode, I re-watched it.

Also, there may be discrepancies of what is counted as being captured, or Zuko’s honor being mentioned. My criteria for Sokka being captured counts as him having nowhere left to turn, and friends cannot help him. Zuko’s honor is different from his destiny, so I counted honor, and not destiny, unless they intertwined in some way. If you don’t completely agree, I apologize that my standards are not the same as yours.

The breakdown is by season:

Book 1: Water

Amount of Episodes: 20

Sokka is captured: 9 times

Zuko’s honor is mentioned: 11 times.

Book 2: Earth

Amount of Episodes: 20

Sokka is captured: 6 times

Zuko’s honor is mentioned: 10 times

Book 3: Fire

Amount of Episodes: 21

Sokka is captured: 4 times

Zuko’s honor is mentioned: 9 times

Grand Total:

Sokka is captured: 19 times

Zuko’s honor is mentioned: 30 times

I appreciate the patience while I worked on this. I do, unfortunately, have a life and it interfered with my ability to sit through the entire series in one day.

Four episodes left in the first season.

So far, Sokka gets captured as much as Zuko’s honor is mentioned.
